A call to the philanthropic community to step up to the plate…

The Crisis Charitable Commitment (CCC) is a campaign to greatly increase the flow of charitable dollars to nonprofits in response to the Covid-19 crisis and its aftermath. The Charitable Commitment is a voluntary minimum level of charitable contributions for America’s wealthiest individuals and foundations.

Philanthropists should be asking themselves not only where and how to give, but how much to give. While there is no shortage of need faced by nonprofits, until now there has been no standard by which to measure what is an adequate charitable response from those most capable of giving. Large foundations have historically clung to the legal requirement of making contributions equal to 5% of their endowments. Ultra High Net Worth Individuals (UHNWI), the 0.1% of American households, have been giving just 1% of their assets to charity.

But this is not a time for business as usual. This is the rainy day. Please consider digging deep and joining our community of responsible philanthropists who are responding to the continuing crisis in a meaningful way.

Signing the Crisis Charitable Commitment is easy: Use the Commitment Calculator to determine your minimum level of charitable giving; then fill out the form.  And you’ll get a “Commitment” baseball cap in thanks for stepping up to the plate!

The CCC does not raise money for itself; nor does it dictate where your charitable dollars should go.  However, the CCC does encourage particular consideration to two underfunded issues highlighted during this Covid-19 crisis–racial justice and democracy.

We are pleased to highlight 108 individuals and organizations that have met the CCC’s Charitable Commitment for giving:
