The Crises Charitable Commitment
Please Join Us. Make the Charitable Commitment.A project of the Excessive Wealth Disorder InstituteA call to the philanthropic community to step up to the plate…
The Crises Charitable Commitment invites you to join a group of philanthropists who have voluntarily increased their level of charitable giving, setting an example for other wealthy donors and foundations. Together we can greatly increase the flow of charitable dollars to nonprofits in response to today’s crises.
Private foundations, donor-advised funds (DAFs) and the ultra-wealthy have enjoyed an incredible stock market run for two decades, while nonprofits have seen a growing gap between their needs and contributions received. The problem can only get worse if foundations view as a ceiling the legal requirement of making contributions equal to 5% of their endowments, and if Ultra High Net Worth Individuals (UHNWI), the 0.1% of American households, who can afford to be most generous, continue to give less than 1% of their assets to charitable organizations.
The Crises Charitable Commitment was launched to raise the giving bar, creating a standard to measure what is an adequate charitable response to our lingering crises from those most capable of giving. Please consider stepping up the plate by digging deep and joining a community of philanthropists who are responding to our social crises in a meaningful way.
What is the Charitable Commitment for Philanthropists?
* Private Foundations: 6% payout up to the first $50 million of endowment 10% payout thereafter
* Donor Advised Funds (DAFs): 10% payout
* Ultra-wealthy Individuals: Donate 0.5%-8% of net wealth
Signing the Charitable Commitment is easy – just fill out the appropriate form (individual, donor-advised fund, or foundation). No dues, no further obligations. And best of all, you’ll get a “Commitment” baseball cap for stepping up to the plate!

Need to know: The goal of the Crises Charitable Commitment is to encourage major donors to provide greater support to nonprofit organizations. We are particularly mindful of the crises in democracy, racial and gender justice, the environment and wealth inequality. However, qualification for the CCC is based on the amount of giving irrespective of the types of organizations funded.

DAF (Donor Advised Fund) Sponsor Initiative (DSI)
We are pleased to recognize those foundations that met the Charitable Commitment for DAF Sponsors:
- At least 50% of their $1 million+ donor advised funds meet a 10% annual distribution (payout), AND
- In the aggregate for all of their $1 million+ donor advised funds, the distribution (payout) exceeds 10%.
The CCC gives “above and beyond” recognition (*) to those sponsoring organizations that visibly promote a 10% distribution for their donor advised funds. To register, please contact us here.
